McCoy eager to get back in the game
DSD_6212.jpgAfter a harrowing crash at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, Andy McCoy is recovered and looking forward to the future.

The Missouri-based chassis builder was behind the wheel of the Andy McCoy Race Cars 1957 Chevy when a fuel pump malfunction leaned the engine out, exploding the bottom end, closing the valves and popping the burst panel. The explosion sparked the fuel spraying from the broken fuel pump and set the car afire. The damage was substantial enough to put the team out of competition for the remainder of the season, but not enough to keep them out for good. The popular carbon fiber clad '57 Chevy will make its big return at the 2006 Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Orlando this December.

"We really had our program moving in the right direction at Indy. We we're excited to be a part of the Big Go and this accident definitely delivered a major blow to our excitement," Andy said. "We're not going to let it keep us down though; we'll be back in action sooner than expected."

The car is back at Andy McCoy Race Cars in High Ridge, MO undergoing cosmetic surgery to prepare the car for competition. While the car suffered major damage, driver Andy McCoy was lucky enough to escape the accident with minor injuries. McCoy was kept overnight at a local Indianapolis hospital, but was released the following morning.

"We're working hard to get the car back into shape and reviewing data from our runs to increase our performance," Andy said. "The team has really pulled together and we're going to be back at it and better than ever in the very near future. Between my Crew Chief Lance Hedrick and my sponsors, Dobbs Automotive, Meramac Caverns, and 1320 Media I've got a winning combination. We've had a good season and we're looking forward to next year."
